The beauty of La Isla Bonita” San Pedro Ambergris Caye is its easy access to Belize City by sea (via San Pedro Belize Express or Ocean Ferry Belize) or by air (via Tropicair or Maya Island Air). When you arrive in Belize City, you will be met by our guides before heading to Actun Tunichil Muknal!
A visit to Actun Tunichil Muknal Archaeological Reserve (ATM) Cave, dubbed by National Geography as the top sacred cave to explore, will surely be a life-changing experience
We begin our journey with a comfortable drive to the Cayo District ranger outpost. Helmets, headlamps, and life jackets will be provided by our guides. Gear up and prepare to hike, wade, and swim through the Maya Underworld's trails and rivers.
- Three river crossings and a 30-minute jungle walk bring you to an hourglass entrance on the trail. The cave system extends about three miles from here. Cave features include stalactites, stalagmites, and jarring boulders. And freshwater—streams flowing from ankle to waist depth.
You will hike barefoot through a large cavern the size of a football field after an hour of spelunking. There are Mayan artifacts in the cavern dating back to the 1st century AD including pottery (from intact to completely shattered) tools, ceremonial objects, and even 14 skeletal remains (finger bones, skulls, etc.).
A calcified "Crystal Maiden" is believed to be the skeleton of a young woman sacrificed to the gods in the main chamber.
NOTE: This trail involves a lot of hiking, swimming, and climbing. Bring a pair of closed-toe water shoes or comfortable, lightweight clothing. After getting wet, sneakers can become heavy. You should have a pair of socks on you for the portion of the tour that is done barefoot.
Personal items (extra clothes, small towels, money, and cameras) must be left in the van at the parking lot. Cameras and cell phones are prohibited.

After arrival in Belize City, our driver will pick you up. A quick breakfast stop is possible. Breakfast is not included in your booking. The drive to the Atm cave cutoff takes about an hour.

The ATM cave tour guide will meet you in Teakettle, in the Cayo District. From there, you will board your guide's vehicle and head to the cave. Other guests may be joining you unless your tour is private.

The entire experience takes about 4 hours, including lunch. ATM Cave in Belize is a wet cave where you swim into the entrance and then walk through ankle-to-chest-high water before climbing to a dry chamber that leads to the cathedral.

After exploring deep inside the Atm cave, we backtrack to Teakettle Village and continue to Belize City, where you take the 5:30 pm boat or flight back to Ambergris Caye. Your cab driver will pick you up and take you back to your resort.
