Altun Ha and the Belize Zoo can fit into one private day when the ferry or local-flight schedule is confirmed first. Plan roughly 7–8 hours including the island connection, mainland transport, guided visits, and return buffer.

Start with an early San Pedro water taxi or local flight. Your mainland guide or driver meets you at the confirmed Belize City terminal or airport and travels north to Altun Ha. The site was an important Mayan ceremonial and trading center between the Caribbean coast and inland communities. The guided walk covers the main plazas and the Temple of the Masonry Altars, associated with the jade head representing Kinich Ahau. Paths between the principal structures are relatively manageable; temple steps are optional and access can change.

The route then crosses toward the George Price Highway for the Belize Zoo. The zoo cares for more than 150 animals representing native Belize species, including animals that were rescued, confiscated, or transferred from rehabilitation and zoological facilities. Naturalistic habitats and shaded paths create a conservation-and-education visit rather than an entertainment-animal show. Jaguars, tapirs, macaws, harpy eagles, monkeys, and crocodiles may be present, but specific sightings and activity are never guaranteed.

There is still warm outdoor walking, sun, and time on the road.
