Private Tour: Altun Ha and Baboon Sanctuary from San Pedro

There are no two Maya temples alike. Altun Ha is the nearest excavated Maya temple to Belize City and is probably the most visited by Belizean schoolchildren. Depending on your choice, you can depart from La Isla Bonita San Pedro by sea on San Pedro Belize Express or by air on Maya Island Air. Once you arrive on the mainland in Belize City, our guides will meet you and take you to the Old Northern Road to see this beautiful Maya Temple. They are not as tall as Lamanai and Xunantunich but are easily climbed.

After trekking an ancient home of the Maya, you’ll head to the tiny village of Bermudian Landing to visit The Community Baboon Sanctuary. Founded in 1985 the aim of the sanctuary was to show farmers in the area that protecting the habitat of the Black Howler Monkey could bring sustainability to the village. Your guide will show you the monkeys up close as they scamper across rope suspensions bridges throughout the village. You won’t miss the howl of this small monkey that sounds like it’s coming from a much bigger animal.

This will be a day of archaeological history and wildlife all within a few miles of Belize City. Be back at your hotel in time for happy hour and a late afternoon swim.
