Where the horseback riding actually takes place

Private Belize Adventure’s Xunantunich and horseback-riding combinations use Banana Bank for the riding portion. The ride is not at Xunantunich and it is not at an unnamed property beside the archaeological site. Banana Bank is near Belmopan, so the route includes a separate drive after the ruins visit.

The operating order is: pickup from the confirmed location, travel to Xunantunich, tour the Mayan site, drive east toward Belmopan to Banana Bank, complete the horseback activity, and then return to the guest’s drop-off point. This order should appear consistently on every linked product.

What Banana Bank confirms for riders

Banana Bank lists horseback riding as one of its main activities and describes beginner and refresher riding programs. Its published information says horses are matched to a rider’s skill and size. That supports welcoming first-time riders for an appropriate program, but it does not mean every guest or every trail is automatically suitable.

Do not assume that the booked ride includes a river crossing, follows one fixed trail, or has universal age and weight rules. Each rider’s age, experience, mobility, and relevant health information must be provided before payment so the operating team can confirm suitability, equipment, and the trail available for that date.

Choose a Xunantunich and Banana Bank route by pickup

These six products use the same two main stops but have very different travel days. Xunantunich is visited first; Banana Bank horseback riding follows.

• From Belize City — west to Xunantunich, back east to Banana Bank, then return to Belize City.
• From San Pedro — requires an early island-to-mainland connection and enough time for both inland stops.
• From San Ignacio — starts near Xunantunich but still includes the eastbound drive to Banana Bank and the return to San Ignacio.
• From Placencia — a long road day from the peninsula, with Xunantunich before Banana Bank.
• From Caye Caulker — planned around the water taxi and mainland meeting point, with no early-return promise.
• From Hopkins — travels inland to Xunantunich, returns toward Belmopan for Banana Bank, then continues back to Hopkins.

What the Xunantunich visit adds

Xunantunich is a Classic-period Mayan centre near San José Succotz. The usual road approach includes the hand-cranked ferry across the Mopan River, followed by a guided site visit on uneven outdoor paths. Climbing and access depend on current site rules, weather, and guest ability.

After the archaeological visit, the vehicle travels east to Banana Bank. There, the riding team handles the horse match, briefing, and activity. The exact riding time and trail must be shown in the written confirmation once the operating details are confirmed.

Who should choose a different tour

A horseback combination may not fit a guest who cannot safely mount, balance, follow the riding team’s instructions, or spend sustained time outdoors. It may also be a poor fit for an island or coastal guest with a late start or an early fixed return. When riding is not suitable, a focused Xunantunich tour can preserve the Mayan-history part of the day without forcing the activity.
