Private Tour: Altun Ha And Cave Tubing from Belize City

All Maya Temples are not created equal. Altun Ha is the nearest excavated Maya Temple to Belize City and is probably the most visited by Belizean school children from all over the country. You’ll depart from Belize City to see this beautiful Maya Temple with wide-open spaces. The temples are easily climbed and are not as tall as Lamanai and Xunantunich.

Want to trek an ancient site of the Maya? Touring the ruins can be done in an hour. Once you are done, head west for a 90-minute drive towards Jaguar Paw, where you can try tubing for two hours. You will meet your tour guides, who will issue inflatable tubes, headlamps, and life vests. You’ll get a short intro and safety briefing before heading off on a 30-minute hike which includes wading through some knee-deep streams. It might sound scary, but don’t be! as it’s mostly on flat terrain, it’s enjoyable and informative. The rainforest canopy shades it, and our tour guides will point out flora and fauna noteworthy to the area.

Cave Tubing

Once at the entrance of the cave system, it’s time for your cave tubing adventure through the ancient Maya underworld. Inside, you’ll see intricate crystalline formations that line the cave with a majestic rise and fall of stalagmites and stalactites that add to the serene richness and grandiose of Xibalba as it’s known. If there’s time and you’re open to added adventure, our guides may stop at the mini waterfall and swimming area. After leaving the falls, you’ll emerge into the sunlight and free float downstream, ushered by the gentle current and little rapids, to the harmony of birds and natural wildlife, which routes back to where the tour started.

Note: It’s best to use comfortable shoes and clothing that will air dry quickly if you don’t want to bring along a change of clothing for cave tubing. If you opt to bring a change of clothes, bathroom facilities and showers are provided onsite for a quick shower. It rinses and goes! Nobody soap or rags provided
